[Debut Project] Xaviier – ‘Planet X’

After listening to his debut project, you’ll ask: Where has Xaviier been all of my life? Seriously. His voice is beautiful.

The 21-year-old singer from the OthAsideAtl takes us on a journey of love, life, time, and space in his debut offering, Planet X. 

Planet X begins with a cool introduction, before transitioning into his first love song of the project, “On The Low,” where he croons the ladies with soft words and seductive intentions. 

Just from “On The Low,” don’t think Xaviier is just crooning his female listeners. Right after the record, he puts the controversial and tragic death of Eric Garner into perspective with a timely interlude where the singer speaks on the world-shaking issue. 

Love is the highlight of Planet X, however, and after listening to the full project, you see the full potential and talent of Xaviier as an R&B artist.

[New Project] Sy Ari Da Kid – ‘The Heartbreak Kid 3’

We included Sy Ari Da Kid’s record “Make It Up To You” on our February mix, #TheBaeList, but the rapper gives us an entire mixtape of songs about love and relationships with The Heartbreak Kid 3. 

The mixtape, hosted by DJ S.R., DJ Era, & DJ A-Plus, begins with the famous dialogue between Martin and Gina during an argument–the perfect setup for Sy Ari’s project. 

Throughout the project, the rapper teams up with artists like, Marissa, Snootie Wild, and Blu June, and producers, like Yung Lan, Sean Ross, and Big Fruit (to name a few), to give us his take and experiences within the notion of love. 

Sy Ari never disappoints, and even shows us his expanding versatility in records like the Sean Ross-produced “Alone.”

Pyramid Atlanta presents: #TheBaeList

With Pyramid Atlanta’s first compilation playlist, we hear the ups and downs of love and relationships from our favorite indie hip hop artists around the city. The playlist is conceptual, and is meant to tug on the familiar emotions and memories we share from past and current experiences with love. Each song tells a different story of love.

1. Will Hill – “Meter” featuring Alkebulan and Miloh Smith

Will takes the term “come through” to another level with his collaborative record, “Meter.” It’s about the simple things: riding around the city with your ride or die significant other. Read more and watch the visual here.

2. Money Makin Nique – “My Woman”

With a smooth vibe, Nique’s cool verses tell us how he likes come home to his woman after a long day of hustling. Sit back, relax with your love, and enjoy this Guyana Gold hit. Nique just released the visual for this cool love song. Watch the illustration here.

3. Eri Soul & Izzy Jone$ – “Days With You”

We hear the power of love through music in this collaboration of a great couple, songstress Eri Soul and rapper Izzy Jone$. With all of the negative connotations we often see and hear, this record is a breath of fresh air and reminds us of how attainable true love can be.

4. Ro$hi – “The Other Man”

Side pieces need love too. Ro$hi plays the role of the boyfriend-on-the-side in this record. Over the instrumental of Dom Kennedy’s “Dream To Me,” Ro$hi talks of how he would treat his lady, who just so happened to be in a relationship. It happens.

5. Sy Ari Da Kid – “Make It Up To You”

Sy Ari Da Kid is a master at making authentic music we can all relate to. “Make It Up To You” is the soundtrack to making up for your wrong doings in a relationship. The record comes from Sy Ari’s “The Ultrasound 2” mixtape.

6. J.Phynix – “Carry On”

J.Phynix transitions us into the visionary of love. Throughout the upbeat record, you imagine all of the things you want to do with the person you love–from relaxing on the beach to traveling the world.

7. Miles Stone – “Inner Feelings”

We hear a soulful vibe in Miles Stone’s unreleased record, “Inner Feelings.” He speaks on his fantasies and intentions of the girl he admires the most. Picture that person you want to give everything to, and that’s what you hear in “Inner Feelings.”

8. Translee – “Had My Way” featuring Eddy Fontane & Marian Mereba

We’re closing out #TheBaeList with a record from Translee’s “What They Want?” mixtape. It’s common knowledge that men typically look for the same qualities in their girl that their mother possess. In “Had My Way,” we hear Translee speak on how he wishes his mother had a chance to meet the wonderful girl in his life.

[Project] Larry League – ‘Yung Boi Forever’

We hear a new sound from the Marietta area with a new project called Yung Boi Forever from the guys of Larry League.

The members of Larry League describe their sound as experimental trap, and you hear that creative sound throughout the 14-track project. 

Yung Boi Forever begins with a groovy intro, and Larry League then takes you on an unique journey in each song. 

The rappers showcase a signature style of comic and witty lyrics infused with original vibes created by the collaborative producers on Yung Boi Forever. It may be cliche to say, but this project has something for everyone. The ladies will like “Prom Dance” or “Bub in the Tub,” while lovers of pure instrumentals will definitely appreciate the “Sundae” Interlude. You get a little of the hip, trap feel and lyrical flow with “Trapghanistan.” 

One of the best things about the project is that listeners can tell the creators had a great time recording the project–which is thrilling to hear.

Seriously, don’t skip over Yung Boi Forever. Listen to these guys. Check out the project below (especially “Prom Dance” and “Trapghanistan, my favorites). 

[Project] Kushton Dior – ‘The 501 Blues EP’

Marietta rapper Kushton Dior introduces us to his sound and lyrical flow in his debut project, The 501 Blues EP. 

The project, hosted by QC DJ E-Double, features 12 songs that reflect true life events of the rapper’s highs and lows of life. Conceptuality is a key element of The 501 Blue EP, from the songs to the title of the project.

According to Dior, the element of blue in the name represents the color’s association with serenity, confidence, sadness and nostalgia; 501 College Street relates to the location of the journey we accompany Dior on throughout the project. 

Dior says he may have been a “little too honest” on the project, but the authenticity he displays is what music lovers and fans love to hear–music that we can relate to. 

The 501 Blue EP features a range of production from names like QC DJ E-Double, Randy Savage, Roca Beats, and many other talented producers. 

Kushton Dior has given us a solid, conceptual project filled with versatility and talent. Listen to The 501 Blues EP below.

[Project] Dante Jet$ – ‘YoungxBoomin’

“Being a college student and chasing a record label deal in the mist can be heavy.”

After giving us singles like “Black Thoughts” and “Astronaut,” Southeast Georgia rapper Dante Jet$ has released a full-length project, called YoungxBoomin. 

The 7-track project features Dante’s artistry at its best, from start to finish. The rapper took his time in creating the project. That hard work and persistence is carried over into each song on the project. 

Let’s hope we hear more from Dante Jet$ this year. For now, check out Youngxboomin here. 

 

[Project] Tanner Rowan – ‘Winter EP’

After tempting us with a quite ambiguous EP trailer last week, Tanner Rowan is back with the release of his debut EP, Winter EP.

Tanner starts off the project with audio from a meteorologist predicting wintry weather, which creatively works with the theme and title of the EP. The artist then slows it down a bit and plays around with his vocals in the following track, “Alone.” 

The somber mood continues with the Puppyoto-assisted “Destruction,” then the mood picks up a bit with the concluding track, “Denial.”

Tanner’s use of vocals and moods throughout the project make Winter an overall interesting EP. His sound is different, and he utilizes creativity to bring together a consistent and conceptual product.

[New Project] DNick – ‘Subtle EP’

After releasing Lost in Translation, DNick is back with a beautifully crafted EP, called Subtle. Seriously, this 5-track creation is gold. DNick has released solid projects and tracks that I have loved, but Subtle is definitely this artist’s pinnacle. 

The entire project was a alluring wave of calmness that is addicting. It begins with “Lulla – Bye,” and we hear almost seven minutes of genuine lyrics over a steady, smooth production. This vibe continues from song to song, concluding with a more upbeat song, “Something,” to showcase DNick’s talented versatility.

Throughout the project, you can tell someone special inspired most of Subtle. I may be wrong, but the passion and authenticity DNick displays can only be created by a muse–whether from good or bad situations. 

The production was created by the rapper, under his producer alias Drunken Killah.

[New Project] J. Nolan x Reese Jones – ‘The Humble Legends’

J. Nolan and Reese Jones have officially announced that the wait is over. This artist/producer combo has released an EP entitled, The Humble Legends.

Artist J. Nolan has been working with producer Reese Jones for over a year to perfect this masterpiece. They are recognized by many people as the Manifest Movement and have been compared to many great artists in the hip hop industry including Lupe Fiasco, Nas and Talib Kweli.

This EP is a project that is leading into their full length LP, Keep it Cordial, which is scheduled to release this year.

The vibe to the EP is very smooth and Nolan’s lyricism is at its best. Listen to the EP for your own pleasure below, and support these artists by downloading on iTunes.

[Project] Jae-R Benjamin – ‘Listen To Your Heart’

I’ve always been a fan of Jae-R’s music since we first came across his talents in his Earth EP release last May. Jae-R’s consistent vibe and flow laid over his self-produced tracks can instantly make anyone a fan. The artist continues the momentum and consistency with his newly-released Listen To Your Heart. 

Though his past projects and records have been true masterpieces, Listen To Your Heart takes us deeper into the soul and true intent of the artist while giving us great musical craft. As the title of the album suggests, we hear Jae-R “listen to his heart” and express inner, authentic emotions. 

The combination of Jae-R’s poetic voice and his smooth, soulful beats is soothing, yet provokes listeners to focus on what he is really saying behind those beautiful words. Listen to “Idk Right Now” and “Dress” to see exactly what I mean. 

The artist captions the album with the following message, “Prepare yourself for a way of thinking, positivity & happiness comes from within,” which sets the atmosphere for what Jae-R truly wants listeners to hear and feel from his music.
